Detoxify Yourself Naturally

Every month Mrs. Hsu is sharing with you, from as many angles as possible why her Internal Cleansing Program is crucial for your continued health. And why, if you are already suffering from any number of degenerative diseases or minor ailments, cleansing your body should always be the first step in your health recovery regimen.
We are pleased to show you an excerpt from an article that appeared in "Health Counselor" magazine. Terry Lemerond, a nutritional expert was interviewed by the magazine. His answers will give you another way to understand why Mrs. Hsu has been so successful in helping people "with so many different ailments" get back on the road to abundant health. To clarify matters even more, we asked Mrs. Hsu for her comments.
What are some of the toxins that can accumulate in the body?
Among the biggest culprits are the acids and waste materials from foods that aren't digested completely. The foods may be nutritious to start with, but if they aren't digested completely. The foods may be nutritious to start with, but if they aren't properly digested, they ferment and putrefy. This generates chemicals in the digestive tract that don't belong there. Fecal matter may stay in the system so long that it rots in the digestive tract.
With a diet high in fiber, the waste materials from Monday's breakfast would be eliminated by Tuesday morning. Fiber works as a broom, sweeping material through the system. It speeds up the transit time between consumption and excretion.
However, the transit time is often pretty slow with a typical American diet. The Western diet emphasizes red meat, diary products, and sugar. This food lingers in the system from five to seven days. Because it takes so long, food waste have ample opportunity to discharge hundreds of unwanted chemicals in the alimentary canal. (1)
The liver "cleans house" for us by filtering toxins, bacteria, and chemicals out of the body. But alcohol and junk food further burden the liver. And alcohol disrupts liver function by replacing healthy liver cells with fatty infiltrate.
An amazing 650 different functions have been attributed to this versatile organ. People are able to survive only 15 percent liver function. The liver is an organ that continually tries to regenerate. It deserves to be treated better.
What's the effect of stored toxins on the skin?
When there are more toxins than the liver and kidneys can effectively discharge, the skin takes over. Some physicians refer to the skin as the "third kidney." The excess poisons in the body seek escape through the skin. These poisons are fatty acid residues and they disrupt the skin's healthy integrity. This disruption is evidenced by acne, psoriasis and eczema. (2)
How can we detoxify our systems?
The first step is to improve the diet. This would help take some of the load off the overworked liver. It's a good idea to avoid sugar, alcohol, saturated fats, or any foods that upset the system.
Many people don't even know which foods upset their system. A rule of thumb - based on experience rather than scientific fact - is as follows: Avoid the food you crave.
Why do people crave the very thing they're allergic to? Eating that food disrupts the system and give them a temporary high, followed by a crash. People then crave the same food to lift them up again. Some of the most common allergens are wheat and dairy products, eggs, peanuts, and citrus fruit. (3)
That takes care of what not to eat. What should we eat instead?
Good food choices include lightly steamed, non-starchy vegetables, fresh fruits, salads and adequate amounts of high-quality protein such as chicken or cold-water fish. These foods nourish the system without burdening it.
Drinking plenty of water is vitally important. Water cleanses the body without adding more chemicals to it. I recommend that within a half hour after getting up in the morning, a person should drink at least three 10-ounce glasses of water.
Drink another quart of water about half an hour before the evening meal. Someone who is highly toxic should drink still another quart of water in the middle of the day.
It may take some getting used to, but drinking plenty of water flushes out the system, dilutes poisons in the body, keeps the blood levels at a proper balance, and reduces fat content. (4)
What about supplements?
Nutritional supplements specifically designed to pull toxins out of the system are available. A formula containing water-soluble fibers such as oat bran and psyllium does the most good.
These fibers don't just bind to water, as insoluble forms of fiber such as wheat bran do. Water-soluble fibers also bind to poisons, heavy metals, and fats to move them through the systems. This type of fiber supplements also lowers serum cholesterol and triglycerides levels. (5)
Because the liver is the central detoxifying organ, we should support it in every way we can. A high-quality liver supplement should contain a combination of lipotropics factors to support a healthy flow of fats, and herbal choleretic extracts to support a healthy flow of bile.
What else do you recommend to support the liver?
Milk thistle extract, or Silymarin, contains a mixture of compounds which support the liver. Silymarin is two hundred times more powerful than vitamin E in antioxidant activity. It helps inhibit leukotrienes and free radicals. Silymarin also stimulates the liver's ability to produce and maintain healthy cells.
Liquid liver extract pumps iron into the blood, and by supporting the liver, helps to purify the blood. Liver extract is also known to increase energy, strength and stamina. (6)
The better we take care of our liver, the better it'll pull chemicals and toxins from our systems.
What are some of the toxins we can avoid?
As a society, we're overwhelmed with poisons. The typical American diet is 35 percent sugar and 45 percent fat. Americans, on the average, eat eight to fifteen hundred pounds of chemicals per year. Eventually, toxins lingering in the body will affect all the organs.
Undigested protein becomes toxic in the body and gets pushed into the bloodstream. Allergens are generally protein-based. To prevent toxic overload, we should support our digestive system.
We are aging so fast because of what we're doing to our bodies. And yet, the body, continues to survive under conditions that are suicidal.
Are there any side effects to the detoxifying process?
While detoxifying, many people feel worse before they feel better. That's because a lot of the poisons that have been stored in the system are released into the bloodstream before they're eliminated. Nausea and headaches are common during this process.
One way to minimize the symptoms is to slow down the process. It will take longer to detoxify, but there'll be less discomfort.
(7)
What are the benefits of detoxification?
There's more to health than simply avoiding illness. With detoxification, we can decrease the risk of illness as well as increase vitality, stamina, and well-being.
I'm not going to promise that you'll live to be 130 if you detoxify your system and adopt a healthier way of life. But I will promise that the quality of your life will improve. None of us know how much time is left for us. But by treating our bodies well, the "right now" can be so much richer.
When asked Mrs. Hsu to comment on the opinions expressed the article:
(1) That's absolutely right. That is why the cleansing of your entire system should always be the first step in a comprehensive Back-to-Health program. I also want to add that Food Combining plays a tremendous role here. When you eat foods in improper combinations, it makes it very difficult for your system to properly digest them and undigested, sticky food residue will stick to your intestinal walls. This in turn makes it very hard for the body to absorb the nutritional content of food you are eating.
In addition, eating processed foods and cooked foods destroys the digestive enzymes in the food. That's is why supplementing with enzymes is very important. It will cut down on undigested food going through your digestive system.
(2) Of course. Usually people think that creams and salves are the only way to heal with skin problems. Not so. The condition of the skin is in many ways a reflection of your inside condition. I have a number of dramatic pictures in my testimonial file that shows how every heavy eczema and psoriasis were cleared up through my Internal Cleansing Program.
(3) Many people have allergies. Again, you may have to avoid these food items in the beginning, however, when you cleanse and properly supplement your body, you will find that your allergies will disappear.
(4) Absolutely. That is why water plays such an important role on my program. I always stress that distilled water is the purest form of water and the one that will cleanse you the most.
I don't usually say that you have to drink that much water early in the morning, but I have a reason for it. On my meal plan, you eat only fresh fruit, one at a time, as much as you want in the A.M. hours. Sometimes I eat half a watermelon during the time and that also provides plenty of healthy liquid for the body.
The morning hours are indeed the time when the body is in the cleansing mode and to give it plenty of clean, pure water and juice from the fruit you eat, is of tremendous importance.
For those who are already on Level 2 of my program, it is even more important to do so since DC2 soaks up a lot of liquid as it goes through your body. If you don't drink enough, you will experience some constipation.
(5) Exactly. That's what my DC-2 is all about. It is pure psyllium seed husks with no sugar, flavoring, coloring or anything else. It works its way through your eliminative system, taking with it all of the mucoid plaque that DC1, and on the third level, DC 3, have loosened, and takes it out of the system quickly.
The article is absolutely right also in stating that besides giving your food no chance to putrefy, other harmful substances are also soaked up by the psyllium and carried out of your body before they can go through the intestinal walls into your blood stream.
(6) On Level 2 of the program we introduce LIV-C. It is based upon Silymarin, as the article says, the best liver detergent there is, and it also has a number of other ingredients that help the liver become rejuvenated, such as choline, inositol, etc.
(7) We get calls from new customers who say that the program isn't good for them because they developed a skin rash, or they got a bad headache, or they felt so weak, or they got diarrhea, etc., after staring the program. It is sometimes very hard to help them understand that cleansing is not always an easy process.
It is actually quite enjoyable if you really understand what is happening to you. Your body finally gets a chance to rid itself of stored up toxins in your system, your small intestine and colon are being purged of ancient deposits, your lymph system is being cleaned out, and other good changes are taking place. However, in the process of cleaning you out, you experience temporary inconveniences Stick it out, and maybe gives us a call for more advice. But, as the article correctly states, taking fewer supplements will simply slow down the cleansing process. So, you decide, at what speed you want to go through the whole process.
All in all, my congratulations to Mr. Lemerond for putting a difficult and often misunderstood subject so succinctly.
